Craps
Dice games have been played for over 2,000 years - that
we know of! History buffs will remember Caesar making his critical
decision to send his army across the Rubicon on the roll of the dice
- and thus the origin of the saying Lacta alea eft - the die
is cast.
During the 18th and 19th centuries the game of those in vogue was
Hazard Dice, which was then adopted by the French and renamed Craps.
The term is believed to be a corruption of 'crabs' - the name for
a pair of ones. The game found its way all over the world and onto
the riverboats and gambling spots of the new world, where it was simplified
and Americanised into the version of Craps we know today.
The game has never really been popular in the UK, but has attracted
a stronger and stronger follwoing in the last few years. GamingChips.co.uk
stocks only used casino dice. These have been used ina real casino,
bearing their logo, and cancelled. Each die has been precision cut
to 0.1mm. You will also find an American craps mat made from tough
felt and measuring 91cm x 180cm.
